Some days I feel like a weed--a misfit whose existence is all wrong. I know. It sounds a little melodramatic, but hear me out.

I love old buildings! Do you?
I look at them and I see stories. I sometimes think that if you listen closely enough,... I heard Matt say from the backseat of the Ford Explorer, "The color is starting to change behind us on the horizon." My heart beat a little faster and I started looking over my shoulder from the front passenger seat. I knew that the game was about to be on.
Any guesses on what story this is from?
“The whole afternoon they sat in the drowsy warm dining-room. Mother read the Bible and Eliza Jane read a book, and Father’s head nodded till he woke with a jerk, and then it began to nod again. Royal fingered the wooden chain that he could not whittle, and Alice looked for a long time out of the window. But Almanzo just sat. He had to. He was not allowed to do anything else, for Sunday was not a day for working or playing. It was a day for going to church and for sitting still.” Part 2 of 2
You can read part 1, Created for Such A Time as This, here. This week, in my circle of influence, I have friends and family members who are dealing with joblessness, interminable work stress, illness, loss of independence as they reach their senior-senior years, stress and fears about the coming school year, divorce, raising their grandchildren, car troubles, job transitions, struggling businesses, being full-time caregivers, financial hardship, depression, addictions, and the list goes on and on. Add on top of that all that goes with this season of the coronavirus, Covid-19—the stresses, the worries, the instability, the fears, the heartaches, and the losses. How are we, who were created for such a time as this supposed to live up to this calling that God has put on our life? I already have so much on my plate just fulfilling the roles God has given me on a normal day. How do I add more roles and responsibilities? And what does that even look like? Part 1 of 2
You can read part 2, Fulfilling Your Destiny in Such a Time as This, here. It was one of those days. Earlier that morning, I had scanned through the news and read two or three articles to be up to date on current world and local events. Psalm 23
I have a confession to make. I am a mountains girl. I don’t care for the feel of sand and waves between my toes. Instead, I long for hiking boots, waterfalls, and mountain tops peaking above the clouds. I am convinced that God created the mountain creeks and streams simply because He knew that I would find so much joy in their existence. Psalm 139: 19-24
One cloudy Saturday, two of my photography colleagues and I were doing what we call “backroad photography.” This involves a lot of driving down dirt roads and finding relics of the past. This particular Saturday, we had been driving through the Low Country of South Carolina when we found... By the time I was in sixth grade, I had fallen in love with the well chosen turn of a phrase. All the more so if it was set to music. I enjoyed writing poetry. Song lyrics often said what my heart desired to say. I would take note when I heard or read a quote that was both elegantly written and powerful. To this day, I write down these quotes in notebooks, journals, and on 3x5 cards or sticky notes that I place all around me.
I chose this image of a table because I hope that this blog will encourage discussion. A sitting down at the table together where we can look each other in the eye and share our hearts. It is easy for me to say, “Black Lives Matter”, because they do. Yet, it is not the tagline you will hear me declaring. I know for some this means you have already written off anything I am about to say. That is unfortunate, because I believe that you and I probably agree far more than you realize.
